Knee Pain, Stress Fracture, Top Of Tibia

several months ago my 15 year old son came to us complaining of swollen lymph nodes. Dr. ran some blood work and ruled out anything obvious, though his liver enzymes were high and white blood count was a little low. Yesterday, he had an xray for some knee pain he has been experiencing. The Dr. says it looks like a stress fracture , but it is in a very unusual spot at the very top of the tibia and there is a shadow on the xray. They ordered more bloodwork and a MRI on Saturday. I am trying not to worry, but I can t help myself. Should I be?

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hello, As per your complaints it could be a stress fracture. But there are certain other things which could lead to knee pain as well. First and foremost thing to know is that the pain started suddenly or gradually. A professional Physiotherapist can perform some clinical special tests on knee joint to rule out the problem. MRI report wold give you more specific finding about other soft tissues in and around the knee joint like position of Meniscus, ligaments, plica etc..... Conservative management is available in Physiotherapy for minor injuries (grade-1 and grade-2 in few cases).. So need not to worry about . Just wait for the investigation findings and keep in touch with your consultant physician or physio... wish your son a good health soon..

hi
welcome to hcm forum

as per your clinical presentationi would like to know where the lymph nodes were enlarged inj the leg or somewhere else, i would like to know after the treatment by DR. whther your son was symptoms free or not and also to know whether the blood which were abnormal became correct or not. this all is require to know whether the present knee pain is related to it or not.

if it is not related to it then pain around the knee in 15 yr boy we have to rule out os ggod schatter disease or stress fracture, tumour. for this you can meet an orthopaedics who will examine and advised for the xray aand mri and treat accordingly mean time you can take rest and analgesics which will reduced the pain.

so need not worry do ahead with the test once the report is reay meet the orthopaedics who will reply to all ur querry.

wish you good health
