Knee Replacement, Bypass Surgery Done. Recovered In Acute Care Rehab. Knee Pain, Difficulty In Walking. Solution?

email YYYY@YYYY husband had knee replacement surgery on rt knee , 4 mos ago, and 3 days later had a heart attack and then had bypass surgery the next day. When the docs were done, he couldn't walk.He is 77 yo, I got him into inpt acute care rehab where he did well. 12 days in rehab and he was walking with a walker and came home. His recovery at home has been steady but slow, with setbacks medically, much knee pain, but getting out pt PT therapy. He is going now for cardiac rehab, but still has knee pain, and difficulty walking. The other knee sometimes bothers him, collapsing a few times, nearly falling. What can I do to help him? How long will this go on?

Hi
thanks for your question.
Based on my experience and your description, you need to urgently see orthopedic surgeon once more and have knee re examined.
He also needs continuous physiotherapy.
For most of patients It usually takes 6-8 months and some times one year for elderly patients depending on whether they have chronic conditions, for your husband it might take one year.
Hope I answered your question.
