Loss Of Blood Circulation In Right Hand While Sleeping, Disturbed Sleep. Causes For Symptoms?
I sleep on my left side. During the night, I lose circulation on my right hand . I sleep with my right hand resting on a pillow to keep myself aligned. When I lose circulation in my right hand, it is worse in my middle finger and goes from there. That is the last finger to regain circulation. Regaining. Irculation takes about half an hour and I cannot lie back down or it starts again. This is wreaking havoc on my sleep. Why is this happening to me?
Hi and thanks for the query,
The sensation of loss of sensation in the hand when sleeping is a common phenomenon. For sure it could be annoying and actually disturbs sleep. This is most of the time due to 2 main clinical syndromes. First is the carpal tunnel syndrome and secondly due to compression of the ulnar nerve, which is somewhat very close to the surface, as a position is taken that compresses the arteries supplying blood to these nerves. In carpal tunnel syndrome, symptoms might range from temporal and actually disturbing permanent symptoms. Treatment involves use of vitamins, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, steroids and intra articular injection of these steroids.
I suggest you consult your neurologist for medication and care.
Best regards,
Lucho, MD.
