Lump Getting Bigger In The Roof Of The Mouth. Should I Be Worried?
Hi, for the past year, I ve had this small, bony-feeling lump on the roof of my mouth perhaps a few millimeters wide at most. I haven t paid it much mind, I just thought it was an oddly-placed torus. It hasn t felt like it s grown until recently, and I ve been poking and prodding it trying to figure out what it is. It s irritated now, and feels a bit larger, by a few millimeters. It s on the edge of my hard palate , left side of mouth, just where the soft palate starts. You need to press down on the soft palate to feel it. I took a flashlight to it, and now it resembles a zit. What is it?

Lump on roof of mouth can be there because of some trauma to the roof of mouth or can occur because of impingement of some sharp food stuff there. It can also be a canker sore. Bump on palate can also be there due to infection in the gum or tooth or can be torus palatinus. Trauma to roof of mouth can lead to pain and soreness and can cause swelling which usually regresses on its own in some time. Sharp food stuff impinging can also lead to pain and swelling of the area and after removal of impinging stuff, pain regresses. It can also be canker sores which are self limiting. Without clinical examination, it is difficult to give definite diagnosis. You can visit your dentist for evaluation. By the time you visit a dentist; you can apply orajel over it or can take otc pain med for some relief. Doing warm saline rinses may provide some relief.

I read your problem,it seems that it is normal structure in your oral cavity.
You did not mention that is there any pain?
If not ,there is no problem.
If yes you need to visit a dentist in your area and get the thorough examination done.

the bony feeling you are mentioning can be bony over-growth known as palatine torus....its nothing to worry about...it can be left there as it is or you can get it surgically excised.
you didn't mentioned about the pain....well if you are not experiencing any pain then it can be due trauma.
whats your dentition status...i mean to ask are all your teeth erupted....if not then it may be any cyst related to impacted tooth.
i would suggest that you should consult a dentist & undergo proper examination by him....this would lead to correct diagnosis & would help in planning the correct treatment.

Spread of periapical abscess into tissue spaces as well as into sinuses.
Infection of minor salivary glands due to trauma or any blockadeof ducts.

The description provided shows that it could be a bony prominence or Torus palatinus. Anyway get your self examined by a dentist to determine if it is a normal structure or a tumor. Investigations like x ray could provide an insight into the problem. Get an examination done at the earliest without any further delay.

Hello dear
As per information provided by you it seems that this swelling is an enlargement of palatal salivary gland and as you irritated it so now some secondary infection has occured and it is enlarging.So my dear first of all stoo thinking about it, apply OTC available anaesthetic and antibiotic gel like dologel CT OR Metrohex etc thrice daily, do warm saline rinses 3 to 4 times and relax.
If condition start improving in 7 days its fine otherwise take consultation of dentist.

If its painless & doesn't increase in size then its nothing to worry about because it appears be normal anatomic structure.Still it can be:-
-palatine torus
-enlargement due to foreign body
If you experience any pain or trouble in that area then concern your dentist.
