Lump On Tonsil, Discomfort, Blisters Behind Throat, Swelling In Tonsils. Causes For Symptoms?

I have a lump, on my tonsil that has been there for a few weeks and I can feel it when I m just doing normal things ie. breathing , eating etc. It has never been painful just uncomfortable. In the last two or three days as well as this, I have got a couple of blister looking things developed on the back of my throat behind my tonsil. My tonsil is also slightly swollen - this is all only on one side of my mouth. I m really worried and have no idea what it is, my tonsils aren t white and extremely swollen so I m almost sure it isn t tonsilitus?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi
You are having Upper respiratory tract infection. The infection and associated inflammation has spread from tonsil to the surrounding areas.
Please avoid cool liquids.
Take Tablet Azithromycin antibiotic 250mg twice daily. If the symptoms are severe, another antibiotic like Cefpodoxime 2oomg can be added.
You have to take Anti inflammatory drug also.
Mouth gargling will also be helpful
If the symptoms doesn't subside,Consult ENT doctor and can ask for the role of Surgery.
Hope it will come down with medicines only.
Wish you speedy recovery

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Mayank Bhargava's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
You are most likely suffering from acute bacterial tonsillitis.
Presence of enlarged tonsil with couple of blisters along with dysphagic symptoms suggest the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ ENT surgeon and should go for thorough check up.
You should go for throat swab culture & sensitivity for detection of culprit microorganism and effective antibiotics.
Meanwhile, you should take complete antibiotic course empirically, decongestants, anti-inflammatory.
You should also perform gargles three times in day: a glass of lukewarm water with a pinch of salts.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava

Dentist Dr. Farah Hussain's  Response
hi and welcome to HCM,
After reading your history i suspect you are suffering from acute tonsillitis or pharyngitis which is mostly bacterial infection or sometimes viral infection seen post flu infections.
It is inflammation of mucous membrane lining the tonsills leading to redness and formation of blisters and pus filled sacs on peritonsillar crypts.
You can start with a course of antibiotic AUgmentin 625mg along with analgesics 2 times daily for about 3 to 5 days till the symptoms subside.
mouth gargling with antiseptic mouth wash like chlorhexidine or betadine regularly will give soothing effect to the throat.
drink lot of water and keep yourself hydrated.
i hope this helps,
take care.
