Lymph Nodes Swollen. Given Benadryl. Advice?

I think my child had fifth disease. I took her to our local ER and they didn't know what it was. Although they found her lymph nodes to be swollen. The ER said it could be an allergic reaction to something but I had not changed anything in my home for her to have a reaction to. Due to the swollen lymph nodes I assumed it was not a reaction from anything. After a few days of me giving her Benadryl the rash went away and we have not had a problem with it since.

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Lymph nodes swelling is associated with viral fevers.

These swelling gradually decrease over time in viral fevers.

Observe the size of lymph nodes.

If they are increasing in size, further investigations are required.

Be in follow up with the pediatrician to monitor the size of lymph nodes.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I can understand your concern.

Lymph node swelling in children could be because of various reasons. It could be because of infection both bacterial and viral. Upto certain size lymphnodes are normal. Rash can occur in various diseases in children. The differential diagnosis depends on the presence or absence of fever on which day of fever the rash appeared etc.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

Welcome to HealthCare Magic

Hope you are doing good. Lymph nodes usually swell if there is some kind of infection in body. As you doctor has examined the kid there could be the possibility of Allergy , we usually don't get allergy if something has changed in home. there could be lot of reason behind the allergy like dust , perfume , cloths etc.

As you have Mentioned about that the rash on your child disappeared with Benadryl. Benadryl is an antihistamine. Diphenhydramine blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body.

Benadryl is used to treat sneezing; runny nose; itching, watery eyes; hives; RASHES; itching; and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold.

I hope have answered your Query , Feel free to ask if you have any Query. Wish your child good Health.
Regards
