MRI Done After Accident, Have Improvement. Is Surgery Required?
I have had an MRI SCAN WHICH SHOWS MULTILEVEL NARROWING OF THE SPINAL CANAL - MOST SEVERE AT C5/6 WITH MOULDING OF THE RIGHT ANTERIOR HEMICORD BUT WITHOUT INTRINSIC CORD SIGNAL CHANGE. THIS IS ASSOCIATED WITH NARROWING OF THE RIGHT C6 NEUROFORAMEN. NEUROFORAMINAL NARROWING AT OTHER LEVELS. THIS IS FOLLOWING A ROAD ACCIDENT IN JANUARY-HOWEVER I AM NOT IN SEVERE PAIN CONSTANTLY AND WAS TAKING NAPRAXON 500MG WHICH SEEMED TO TAKE ANY PAIN AWAY - AND THE PAIN HAS NOT RETURNED. NOW FEEL THAT IT IS IMPROVING. DO I REALLY NEED SURGERY?
which part was surgery advised? With regards your mri finding, there is no immediate or surgical intervention needed unless of course if there is severe compression of the nerve roots. Nerve root compression can manifest as pain in the affected area and sometimes numbness. If pain is tolerable and does not stop you from doing daily activities it would be managed consrvatively. However, naproxen can not be taken for long periods of time due to its known side effects to your gastric lining and other vital organs. If the pain is really bothering without that pain reliever, then it is a good way to start deciding whether you would need surgery for a pain-free life ahead.
Feel free to ask us if you have other concerns, thank you.
