Massive Bleed Treated As Nose Bleed, Drain Inserted To Remove Fluid From Chest. Post Mortem Report Showed Lung Abscess. Bleeding Resulted From Abscess?
My father's post mortem showed a lung abscess, he was admitted to hospital with a massive bleed that was treated as a nose bleed although the amount of blood lost and the size of the clots seemed excessive for a nose bleed it was i was never diagnosed as a bleed from his lung , he had a drain inserted to remove fluid from his chest, was it possible the bleed was a result of the abscess ?
Hello, Thanks for the query to h.c.m. forum. It was not possible that in itself lung abscess causes nose bleeding . The causes of nasal bleeding are numerous . High blood pressure was the reason of bleeding from nose. If blood was after death than it was due to oozing and rigor mortis. However it may happens that when postmortem performed fluid may developed in lungs due to bleeding. Sorry for death.
