Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 11 year old son has had 7 months of repeats diagnosis of mesenteric adenitis. This last episode showed his white blood cell count to be low, 2.7 with ultrasound showing enlarged lymph nodes in the abdominal area. He has medium amounts of pain mainly located around the belly button area. I am concerned that something else is going on.
Mesenteric adenitis is a common problem in children with pain abdomen.
Most of the times it is due to a nonspecific infection like caused by some virus or a bacteria. It usually resolves spontaneously and just symptomatic treatment is required in most of the cases.
As the WBC count is low in your child, this infection is looking like a viral illness.

Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. But other causes like tuberculosis has to be ruled out by doing ESR, and mantoux test after the advise of your pediatrician. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
