Metallic Taste In Mouth, Foul Smelling Breath, Wisdom Tooth Growing At An Angle. Treatment?
Hİ I have a wisdom tooth coming through on the bottom and it is coming through on an angle. Other than the pain I am experiencing a metal like taste in my mouth. It is making my breath slightly bad sometimes. I just want to check this is normal and ı am not experiencing an affection that needs a dentist to look at it?
Hello & welcome
As you said that wisdom tooth is coming through an angle means this tooth is partially tilted, & the pain, metallic taste & bad breath you are feeling is because of pericoronitis.
Small gingival flap partially covering your wisdom tooth is known as pericoronal flap and swelling of this is known as pericoronitis.
I will advise you to visit your dentist for a check x-ray because this tooth may be impacted and you may require extraction of this tooth.
In the mean time you can start up with warm saline rinses, betadine rinses and ibuprofen 400 mg (SOS). You will get relief.
Take care and bye
pain associated withe eruption of wisdom tooth is normal. if it causes a lot of discomfort..you should take pain killers. however bad breath and taste could be beacuse of a gum problem which would need a thorough cleaning by your dentist. also, it could be due to food getting lodged in the area where your wisdom tooth is coming. you need to pay special attention to keep that area clean by rinsing after every meal and flossing there ,especially beacuse the tooth is coming at an angle. the food lodgement can harbour bacteria which leads to foul smell and taste in your mouth.
wisdom tooth erupting at an angle can cause a lot of other problems too so make sure you ask your dentist to tell you the treatment for it after seeing the xray.
Hello and thank you for your question.
I would strongly encourage you to go to your dentist for a full evaluation. From your description it sounds like the bad breath is a combination of a low grade infection of the wisdom tooth and gingivitis. Your oral health can be improved with at home care such as brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, using Listerine mouth wash daily once or twice, and going to a dentist for a proper cleaning. The wisdom tooth probably needs to be evaluated for an extraction. This tooth, coming in at an angle, is a perfect place for bacteria to breed and an infection to fester.
Hi,
Thank you for the query.
According to the history given , it suggests of pericornitis .Infection of the gingival flap lying on the wisdom teeth due to food lodgement may lead to formation of pericornitis. As the teeth is erupting in an angle the possibility for food lodgement is more leading to infection if not cleaned properly. Get an x-ray done to rule out if the teeth is impacted . Betadine gargle rinses and warm salt water rinses would give you relief. See your dentist to rule out the exact cause .
Hope this information helps you.
Take care.
