Metformin, after 2 years, contributed to significant stomach problems and problematic bowel issues. I was taking 500 mg/bid and glicazide 30 mg. I reduced this to half however the stomach issues continued at an alarming rate. My doctor discontinued the metformin and doubled my glicazide. My blood sugars are not under control and I'm continually feeling hunger pangs. I'm exercising daily one hour, avoiding carbs and sugar but my weight continues to increase. Do I need to revisit metformin or is there an alternative?
