Mild Thigh Pain, Aggravates At Night, Increases On Sleeping Side Ways. No Improvement With Physiotherapy Exercises. Advice?

I am getting mild pain in my right thigh , on the back just above hip and also upto the knee . This pain increases by the night. It is also noticed that the pain is getting increased while standing for more time , after walking for some distance and also during bus journey for a longer period say more than two hours. Sometimes, while sleeping also am getting pain and it will be more when turned right side. There will not be much pain when sleeping on back. Immediately after getting up from the bed also am not feeling much pain. But, it increases thereafter. While sitting also am not feeling much pain. I am getting this pain for the last three years. I was in the impression that the pain is due to problem with the bones and consulted an Orthopedist who suggested some physiotherapy exercises which did not result much and the pain is continuing. May i get an advice on the nature of treatment required in my case.

Hi srikanth,
Thanks for writing in to Healthcare Magic!
You seem to be having some neurological problem as a cause for your symptoms unless proven otherwise.
The long standing pain in right thigh indicates a serious local cause affecting the hip/spine.
It can be a sciatica or disc prolapse related issue.
You should get a thorough physical and neurological examination by a neurologist and get investigated to point out the exact diagnosis.
You would need CT/MRI spine as suggested after the examination and follow the advise accordingly.
meanwhile you should avoid awkward postures, should use a hard bed for lying down, use local pain killer spray like one containing diclofenac gel.
If you have any further query please let me know I would try to answer it for you.
Wish you a great health!

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.

You might suffering from sciatica pain. While sciatica is most commonly a result of a lumbar disc herniation directly pressing on the nerve, any cause of irritation or inflammation of the sciatic nerve can reproduce the symptoms of sciatica.

I suggest you to get the X-ray/MRI of the area affected under guidance of your orthopadician to confirm the cause of this condition and treatment plan according to that.

Regards.

hai,
You most likely have a mechanical backache and what it requires a good neurological exmanination and dedicated physiotherapy. Pain increasing on activity is often related to the muscle stress so dont worry too much get a second opinion
