Hi...My name is archana and my age is 28. Got married in Oct 2011. I missed my period in the last month...when checked through scan they said i have polycystic ovaires. I never faced this problem of missing periods earlier. What are the chances of me becoming mother....am waiting for the moment desperately. Please advise.
Polycystic ovaries can be normal however polycystic ovarian syndrome is a disease that will need treatment. You need to check your hormonal profile to exclude polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Your chances of being pregnant depends on what's causing infertility but i think your chances are good.
Hello Archana, poly cystic ovaries are becoming a very common problem among females nowadays. It is basically a problem with the ovaries generating a lot of eggs but not mature enough to be released and fertilised . And due to the lack of ovulation, there might be irregular periods. And natural conception is possible too. It cannot be denied that PCOD has an element of infertility though not universal. it is very likely that you might conceive given the advancements in assisted reproductive techniques. Only after 1 year of marriage and attempts to conceive do we call it infertility. If you are overweight, try reducing your weight. Avoid any anxiety as it can make only things worse. There are certain methods to see if you are ovulating ( like the basal body temperature method and ovulation prediction kits) according to which you can plan the intercourse for successful conception. But first I would recommend you to gain strong knowledge of the reproductive cycles and the most fertile days of a cycle as it can make a difference. And your gynaecologist might give you some medications to regularise cycles and maintain pregnancy if it occurs. So stick to those mediations dutifully and hope for the best. All the more even if ovulation fails, we can induce ovulation and monitor the follicle size, assess the ovulation time and plan accordingly. So there is always hope . Never lose heart and be confident! Take care.
