Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. M Agarwal's Response
hello. welcome to HCM.
Negative pregnancy tets are usually clearly positive from the first day of missed period or even earlier. A negative urine HCG test rules out pregnancy but a cause for amenorrhoea needs to be found. Depending on your age, there could be many causes, apart from pregnancy for amenorrhoea.
These are commonly functional ovarian cysts, hormonal imbalance preventing bleeding or even initial phase of climacteric (elderly females). To sate the cause in your case, you must undergo the following tets:
1. USG abdomen
2. Hormonal status- blood levels of estrogenprogestrone, FSH and LH
Depending on results of these, further investigations (e.g endometrial biopsy) can be planned by gynecologist if required.
Hope this helps. Take care.
