Mucus In The Back Of Throat, Painful, Swelling. Should I Be Worried?
Hi, every morning I wake up and immediately feel mucous in the back of my throat that I just can't seem to get out. About 2-3 weeks ago my throat started hurting but only on one side. And I can see by looking in the mirror that it's swollen on the right side only. Occasionally that ear hurts too. A few days ago it stopped hurting but is still swollen. Should I be worried? I'm freaking out. Also I sleep on my right side. Could that be affecting anything?
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern.
If there is swelling on the right side of the throat there could be tonsillitis. A throat examination will confirm the diagnosis. A throat swab for culture and sensitivity may be required to identify the organism causing the problem. Pain in the ear could be because of infection in the ear because of spread of infection from the throat to the middle ear. Antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor may be required if the diagnosis is confirmed.
