Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 91 year old Mother had and Aortic heart valve replaced in 1999 as a complication of the pigs valve replacement she ended up 100% dependent on a pacemaker. She now has Dementia, severe short term memory loss. She has a permanent Foley catheter and she moves fluid through her catheter well. My reason for writing. In the recent 2 months she has started having edema on her legs, ankles and feet. Started with 20 MG Lasix a day, then 40 MG a day and then 60 MG a day. Today I had to give her 100 MG. Seems that all fluids just go to her lower extremities immediately after the Lasix wears off. I am concerned that her 17 year porcine valve is showing it's age and her heart does not have the ability to move this fluid off her lower extremities. She does not have diabetes. She does not take blood pressure medication. Her vitals are usually 124/75 PR 85 O2 94 weight 160 lbs at 5' 2". She has shortness of breath on any activity and fatigues easy. Moves around slowly. I am concerned that she is having onset signs of CHF however her last chest ex ray did not show pulmonary edema. But it is hard to tell exactly what is in the bottom of the lungs because it seems we all have a sizable white area in the bottom of our lungs.
