WELCOME TO HEALTHCAREMAGIC
Diverticula are outward pouches from large intestine. Their presence without any inflammation is called
diverticulosis. Infection of the diverticula is called
diverticulitis. Most people with diverticulosis (no inflmation) do not have any discomfort or symptoms. However, some people may experience crampy pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen, bloating, and
constipation. High fiber diet, fiber supplementation with metamuci, Cetrucil will keep the bowel movements clear and thus reduces the pressure in intestine. It will prevent diviertucula from originating and reduces the chances of worsening of existing diverticula. You can also use
Ibuprofen as needed for pain medication.
If the symptoms do not subside, consult surgery/gastroenterology for
colonoscopy. So that you will know to what extent the colon is involved. Also get the CT abdomen- w/and without contrast.
Diverticula are not hereditary. Diverticula are present in elderly people. It is very uncommon in children.
