My Daughter Is 20. She Is A Virgin. Her Period

My daughter is 20. She is a virgin. Her period last month lasted three weeks. Heavy and heavy, large clots. I took her to her pcp. They ran some blood test where it was discovered she is hypothyroid. Her tsh was a little over 5. They ordered an ultrasound of her thyroid and a small, 2 mm polyp was found. In the meantime they started her on birth control pills to try and control the periods and levothyroxine 50 mg a day. two weeks after starting these pills she started another period which is going into it's third week. Same as before heavy and large clots. What questions should I ask her Doctor? Should she be seeing a specialist? We are both very worried and it's very bothersome to her as she is changing her pad every half hour. Thanks for your time!
