Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father (65yo) lives with a heart mate ii since 2007. Two weeks ago was admitted because he had trouble breathing. A thrombosis is diagnosed at the right ventricle. His heart stopped for a while and since then he is at the icu. He was sedated for 4 days but after quiting drugs, he didn't really react and all he did was just breathing alone. Today he has high fever and the dialysis is no longer able to help the kidneys. MD's said that the other organs are failing as well. Since we are in Greece and he's the only patient with a heart mate that long, even though the doctors did all they could, I think the end is coming. The ethics here are not that far to pull the plug. How long is he going to suffer?
