Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father has been a life long alcoholic who was long ago diagnosed with emphysema and cirrhosis. Last year he was diagnosed with a heart condition. His diet has been primarily alcohol and nicotine for the last few years. After having several ribs broken and living with them this way for months, he finally had surgery for plates to correct the breaks a few weeks ago. After being released from the hospital his surgical sight filled with infection and he developed pneumonia. One the infection seemed to be resolved he was released still with pneumonia and with grapefruit sized swollen scrotum. He was returned to the hospital yesterday with feet also swollen twice as large as normal. He is now on oxygen and been determined to have congestive heart failure - his heart is functioning at 25%. What are the odds that he lives through this?
