Hello, welcome to HCM. Spinal surgeries are very delicate surgeries and patients can take up long time in recovery. The pain may be present usually upto 4 to 6 weeks depending on the surgery performed and the method choosed for it. You must consult your doctor and continue recieved physiotherapy. Avoid heavy work and limit yourself to mild walking and very light exercises. Take a good healthy diet and recovery would be faster. WIsh you good health.
hello
Lumbar spine surgery is performed on the lower back to alleviate lower back pain. Pain in the lower back is often confused with sciatica. It can be performed as an open spine surgery as well as by using a minimal invasive technique. When the surgery is done by using a minimal invasive technique, a small incision is made in the patient’s side and a series of small holes are made along the spine. The open spine surgery recovery period is six to twelve months. In case of a minimal invasive spinal surgery it is four to six weeks.
thanks for using HCM forum
I pray he gets fine in six - eight weeks. but overall the success of the spinal disc prolapse surgery are not good and the 5yr post surgery the relief is same as it would have been without surgery. the reason for pain after the surgery varies a lot e.g. pain because of disc herniation at a level above or below the operated disc, facet joint dislocation, nerve entrapment because of any hematoma in the surrounding region. so if the pain does not get any better u shall consult the operating surgeon and may even need a repeat MRI.

He should be taking pain killer, muscle relaxants, avoid lifting weighs and take adequate rest for 6 weeks after Surgery. If there is still pain he may need to get examined by the Surgeon to look for any nerve compression. Kindly take him to the surgeon if his symptoms are not getting relieved with the medicines. Let him eat plenty of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables and diet with good protein like cereals, pulses. Let him avoid bending forwards much.
