Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother 78 yrs old has had two minor strokes in the past two years, following since, she has had several trips to the ER for rapid heart rates usually between 148 to 156 BPM. We didnt know why this kept happening and each trip to the ER she would be treated and a discussion about possible causes for these episodes and suggestions on what to do going foward. Then a presrciption for Metropol would be ordered. Finally after multiple ER visits the an MD diagnosed my mother with SVT which we thought was great news bcuz we're thinking now that we have a name attached to her condition her doctors can aggressively treat this condition. Nope. As u know SVT episodes can be brought on by multiple scenarios and the best medical treatment we've received is to take the Metropol twice daily as well as needed and to monitor anything that may be known to iincrease the heart rate. This is a scary condition and the medical treatment thus far doesnt sit well with me. For the most part she has been able to work thru a heart rate of 145 bpm without needing or wanting to call 911 but while i monitor her symptoms waiting for 2 to 3 hours for the heart medication to take effect, I can see her rapid hearbeat thru her neck from 100 miles away.
