My son fractured through his right growth plate when he was 10. He is very tall and now 14. Last year towards the end of his football season we noticed him limping. He had pain and discomfort and a little swelling, we thought he may have stained it at practice. We had him ice it and elevate it. He only had 1 game left, and made it through the season. This year he started practice a few weeks ago (high school) football and is miserable already. He came off the practice field the other day and was limping fiercely . I asked him what his level of pain was and he said an 8. We looked at the ankle and you couldn't see the outer ankle bone. There was obvious swelling , tenderness . We gave him Advil, we elevated and iced it. I had him refrain from football practice for a day. That was yesterday. Today its still swelled, and painful. I noticed when he walks the right foot is tilted outwards every step he takes. Could this possibly be related to his growth plate injury. He hasn't been injured in practice, and the doctors did tell me to keep an eye on that injury especially the older he got. They told us that if there were to be any problems that we would see them around the age of sixteen, but my son has really gone through quite the growth spurt the last year. He's 6ft shoe size 11 1/2.
