My Son Had A Rapid Strep Test This Past Tuesday

My son had a rapid strep test this past Tuesday with his osteopath, it was negative. On Wed we went to the pediatrician as he had a fever the past few days (low and high (100.6 to 104.9 going up and down). The ped did another rapid strep test, it was negative but also sent away for a culture. He tested positive for the adeno virus (causes high fevers) but he is all better today with no fever. We never interfered with Tylenol since he was resting comfortably the whole week and the fever did its job naturally. So this morning the ped calls and says the culture came back positive for strep. He looks so much better and something is telling me that he doesn't have strep even though it came back positive. When they took the culture, he had a raging 104 fever. I filled the script for Amoxicillian but did not give it to him yet. I brought him back to the osteopath tonight just to test one more time. Rapid said negative and the culture we should get by Sunday. If its positive, of course I will him the antibiotic. Is it possible for a fever to burn off strep or to have had the culture wrong?
