My Wife Recently Cut Her Finger Bad Enough To Need

My wife recently cut her finger bad enough to need 5 stitches two days ago. She now has stitches and a splint. She said she feels pain down one side of her finger. She could bend the finger after it was cut, but there was some numbness/tingling. They recommended she talk to a hand surgeon just 72 hours after stitching. That sounds expensive. Can she wait until she gets stitches out on day 10 to see if everything is ok or is that too long to wait to see if she needs to consult a surgeon?
