Nausea, Tired, Light Headed, Loss Of Weight. Taken Antibiotic, Blood Transfusion, High ALT. Any Treatment?

Hi have high alt, level 150 and I'm 10 weeks postnatal, feel nausea, tired, light headed and have lost a lot of weight. No abdominal pain, or dark urine or light stool. I've had two doses of antibiotics since giving birth, and a blood transfusion. I'm breastfeeding. Is the ALT anything to worry about or will it get fixed by itself, not sure what the cause is, any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there Mam!
Well 10 weeks is a lot of time after birth and any thing related to pregnancy should be resolved. Pregnancy increases liver function tests in many ways the mode of deliveries, the complications like pre eclampsia etc, the drugs used during procedures like caeserian section, analgesics like opioids, maternal age at delivery, breast feeding all these increase the values of LFTs.
You mentioned "Blood Transfusion". well it is a hazard in guise of transmissible diseases which are not liver friendly like hepatitis etc.Plus antibiotics also plays a role in liver derangement. so here is what we gonna do to be on the safer road. we are gonna asses the liver for its functions in details and we are gonna rule out the causes.
first let me ask you the questions.
1) are you jaundiced?(yellow sclera of the eyes)
2) Does your husband/ partner has any communicable disease like hepatitis b or c
3)is there a dragging sensation in your left subcostal margins? ( spleenomegaly. enlargement of spleen to rule out hemolysis)
4) is there any problem of bleeding or purple rashes on the body( rule out thrombocytopenia i e low platelets a condition HELLP syndrome associated with pregnancy to be ruled out)
5) was your delivery normal vaginal, or caeserian , or episiotomy
6) what was the anesthesia? General ? Epidural?
Do
ALT, AST, GGT, Serum albumin. PT, APTT, INR, full blood count specially platelets, BT CT, serum LDH, Haptoglobins, retic count, coomb's test,U/S abdomen and pelvis to be followed by CT if U/S needs it. and last but not the least HBsAg, HCV, and hep a and e.

these investigation if came clean which i am sure they will , will make you out of the woods and we will be left with innocuous self resolving conditions associated with your breast feeding or pregnancy.

I can assure you you need not to worry about it. It is probably nothing. But lab investigations are for reassurance.

Good Luck And if You need me i will be always here for you.
