Need Advice On Medicines Prescribed After Bypass Surgery.
Good morning doctor. My mother has underwent bypass surgery and doctor has advise her following nikoran 5mg, ,Storvas - 20mg, Seroflow 100mg, Gemer and Clopivas AP75mg. Kindly advise why so much of medicine and what are the charateristic of each medicine i.e. why one should take this medicin. Thanks. Sanjay
Nikoran(Nicorandil) 5mg is coronary dilator and is given for prevention of angina. Storvas (Atorvastatin) is given to lower cholesterol level as secondary prevention of restenosis.
Seroflo (Fluticasone propionate 250 mcg+ Salmeterol 25 mcg)is given to relieve shortness of breath-exactly not for a heart condition but for any associated asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Clopivas AP 75mg (Clopidrogel 75 mg and aspirin 75 mg) are anti-platelet drugs or blood thinners again given for secondary prevention.
Combined treatment with clopidogrel and aspirin for at least a year is recommended in patients with acute coronary syndrome treated with revascularisation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
