Need Information On The Chances Of A Person Becoming Mute

Hello. I have a rather interesting question.

I am student and I am right now writing story. But while doing that I found myself in problem. I am not expert in medical one, but I would love to get little bit information.

Thing is. I need to know, is it possible and if it is then how is it possible that person can become mute. Basically person can't talk anymore. But he can still express his expression and maybe even laugh.

Also, what kind of sicknesses there are for those who are mute? I appreciate your answer a lot! Thank you!

Hello
Usually a person speaks with the help of vocal cords situated in the larynx .
When someone get injury in the mouth or to the larynx he will not be able to speak any word but his expression will remain intact.
2nd reason is disease of larynx or mouth also develop such type of condition.
3rd reason is in the terminal stage of laryngeal carcinoma patient is not able to utter any word but his expression remains but in apathetic condition.
Hope information will help you.
