I am have to do an assignment on which i have to trace a path from the femoral vein up info the lower left lobe of the lung , I am needing assistance in which way i am needing to go. I have to describe what i am seeing and then describe what the body is doing in reaction to an infection in the lung once i get there. I cannot find any useful information on what happens when the body senses an intrusion of an infection in the lung. If you could help me i would be greatly thankful. AAAA

Hi there ~

I understand that you are asking for pathology of lung infection or pneumonia i.e. what happens when the body senses an intrusion of an infection in the lung? There are very many causes of pneumonia and the most common ones are viral, bacterial including tubercular, fungal, hypersensitivity, etc. Pneumonia is the inflammation and consolidation of the lung tissue as a result of infection, inhalation of foreign particles, or irradiation. Many organisms, including viruses and fungi, can cause pneumonia, but the most common causes are bacteria, in particular species of Streptococcus and Mycoplasma. Although viral pneumonia does occur, viruses more commonly play a part in weakening the lung, thus inviting secondary pneumonia caused by bacteria. Fungal pneumonia can develop very rapidly and may be fatal, but it usually occurs in hospitalized persons who, because of impaired immunity, have reduced resistance to infection. Contaminated dusts, when inhaled by previously healthy individuals, can sometimes cause fungal lung diseases. Pneumonia can also occur as a hypersensitivity, or allergic response, to agents such as mold, humidifiers, and animal excreta or to chemical or physical injury (e.g., smoke inhalation). I would recommend a good book on pathology to find out what are the underlying factors that lead up to lung infection and inflammation and healing. I hope this helps.

Take care and have a lovely day!
