Nervous Breakdown, Real Bad Dreams, Lack Of Sleep. Weird Mind, Frustration After Intake Of Antiphyshotic Medications. Wrongly Diagnosed Schitzophrenia. Help

I was put in a hospital for a nervous breakdown they put me on a antiphsychotic and it made my mind weird and I still wasnt relaxed, is that possible? why would they make you take a category of medicine that isn't related to my anxiousness and insomnia? They classified me as schitzophrenic and I don't understand why I am stuck with that and they insisted so much on me taking a drug that was making more problems for me. I was discouraged already from having a faulty nervous system and hyperness and now I'm more frustrated and discouraged because It has turned into a phscycotic disease. I never heard voices i never saw things that weren't there I never wished any harm on anyone or myself. they asked me those questions over and over, I had just had some real bad dreams and was under alot of financial pressure and wasnt fully sleeping. Can you explain this?

People with Schizophrenia usually lack insight (i.e lack of awareness that they have any problem or they do not need any medication). If the doctor has confidently diagnosed correctly then better to take antipsychotics. Or else, you can take second opinion of another psychiatrist

Some antipsychotics, in the initiation of therapy can cause such symptoms you are referring to. In such cases, one can ask the doctor to change the drug

But, to my mind, you need to be in consultation

Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

I have gone through your available history.

Anxiety and nervousness might be possible in schizophrenia or post psychotic depression as it may happen in anxiety-depression.

In schizophrenia, there are many different symptoms other than you have mentioned like hearing of voices or suicidal or homicidal ideas .

You should re-consult your doctor to confirm the diagnosis and if not convinced, You may consult other psychiatrist also.

You may do stress management and relaxation therapy like breathing exercise or yoga to have good control over stress.

Thanks.

Psychiatrist Dr. Sundar Gnanavel's  Response
Hello........
Thanks for your query. Delusions and hallucinations are only two of the symptoms of schizophrenia. There are other symptoms like apathy, emotional indifference and disorganised behaviour. A patient usually does not have full insight into his symptoms in a psychotic illness like schizophrenia. If you are insistent, i would suggest a second opinion from a second psychiatrist after a detailed evaluation. Wish you good health.
