Nose Is Stuffed, Cannot Breath And Ears Popping. Had Septoplasty And Sinus Surgery Done. Normal?
I just has septoplasty & sinus surgery on Thursday . My doc did not use any packing and took my Stints out yesterday. Last night and all day today I m so stuffed up I can not breath through my nose and every time I swallow liquid or even my own saliva my ears start to pop and its very uncomfortable! I ve been doing saline washes every 2 hours and taking warm showers to help clear my nose up but it won t budge and I m starting to have cheek pain what can I do to relieve these symptoms and is this normal?
Hello
Thanks for writing to H.C.M.
I have gone through your query regarding post operative discomforts as you feel nasal obstruction, pain and popping in ear during swallowing your saliva or any other thing.
You are actually having post operative oedema and this will subside in about a weeks time. In the same time you can take steam inhalation to thin out collections, but saline wash which you are doing may give infection to operative site.
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Initially after nasal surgery due to congestion and swelling on nasal mucosa, this problem is common.
Gradually congestion and swelling on nasal mucosa will be reduced and you will have clear air way.
I think you might be on some antibiotic, decongestant and anti inflammatory medicines.
You may take Vicks vapor nasal inhalation or put decongestant nasal drops.
Ok and bye.
