Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Numbness Growing From Fingers, Hands To Mouth. What Is The Cause?
I experienced numbness in the fingers on my right hand that started with the middle finger and then spread to the two outer ones, following this I then felt some numbness around my mouth area. The numbness would have lasted no longer than three minutes. Can you please tell me what may have caused this to occur. This is the second time in about about 15 months that I have experienced these symptoms.
In the absence of any history of wear & tear or injury, the symptoms can be due to:
1. Deficiency of certain nutrients like Iron, Vitamin B 12, Vitamin D, Calcium, etc. which interferes with blood formation & nerve conduction. 2. Decrease in blood sugar levels (Hypoglycemia) 3. Any fluctuation in blood pressure levels such as Hypotension. 4. Hormonal imbalance like Hypothyroidism. 5. Lack of adequate hydration, proper nutrition & good sleep. 6. Even emotional factors like stress/tension can lead to such symptoms.
Kindly consult your General Physician & get a proper physical examination done. Investigations like complete blood count, estimation of blood pressure and blood sugar levels will be helpful.
Take care.
