Numbness In Left Hand And Fingers On And Off, Lump Seen In Armpit, Swelling Under Arm And Shoulder. Why Is It ?
Hi , my name is AAAAA and I,ve had numbness in my left hand and fingers off and on for approximately 5 months now. I noticed a lump in my armpit one month ago, and in that time it has grown and now i have noticed swelling under the arm and around the upper arm / shoulder area in the last 24 hrs bruising has appeared pain in arm ang hang has increased and numbness has spread to armpit and upper arm.
Looks like the lump in your armpit region has been troubling you since last 1 monrhs and recently there is a swelling in and around your arm. The numbness in your fingers is there on and off since 5 months.
Your lump needs to be investigated regarding its origin, size and extensions. For these you need to consult a surgeon and he may refer you for X ray/ ultrasound/ CT scans if required. Once imaging evaluation is complete, he will explain to you the reason you got the lump and it he feels, a biopsy may be needed for confirmatory diagnosis.
Coming to numbness in fingers, the nerve supply to fingers (ulnar and radial nerves) originate in neck and travel through armpit region and supply the hand. If maight be that since 5 months back when the lump was really small, the nerves were compressed by the lump occasionally leading to numbness feeling.
Hello, I went through your problems. The lump may due to primary/secondary swelling arising from a lymph node, or a blocked sebaceous gland, fatty swelling like Lipoma or Fibroma. The swelling may be painful /painless. But when it presses over the Brachial Plexus nerve – the pain may radiate down and also produces numbness. When it presses over the veins edema can occur in that particular upper arm. For you numbness was felt in the hand and fingers 5 months ago. The lump was noticed 1 month back and increases in size. By this time swelling has occurred around the shoulder and upper arm. Because of this rapidity in development - needs a complete clinical / physical examinations, elaborate investigations like blood tests, X-Ray, CT or MR scan. Then only we can arrive at a diagnosis and treat it. Best wishes
