Hi

The situation of you father is not an unusual outcome of the ca prostate. Many patient(about 1/3) fail to respond to chemotherapy which is given once the medical orchidectomy(cutting of testosteron production by testes) doesn't help. As with the advancement of research they have found a new class of drug which is in a pill form and low side effect blocks the testosteron production from all over the body. This has proven efficacy over the regular chemotherapy to prolong survival . Over the period they will be given as a first-line therapy instead of chemo after failed medical orchidectomy. Over all not to expect much they are suppose to increase the survival but not to expect the normal life expectancy. Wishing your father do well with the meds. I hope this helped you to understand in part the treatment he might be given. Please revert if you have any quarries.
thanking you
Dr Samir
