On Nexium And Gavascon For GERD. Is There Any Stronger Beta Blocker To Avoid Burning Vocal Cords And Voice Loss?
I have had GERD since 1996. I am on Nexium, but I still have to drink Gavascon. I go through about three bottles a week. I have had to have my teeth pulled and dentures put in because of the acid and my vocal cords burn, I lose my voice every few months. I elevate my bed, and the other precautions. Is there a stronger beta blocker on the market? Is there a surgery that is effective, I have been told no surgery for GERD is a permanant solution.
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).
1.Avoid fatty meals 2. Don’t lie down soon after meals for at least two hour 3.Take small and frequent meals, instead of full meals at a time 4. wear loose clothes 5. If you are overweight or obese do weight reduction with dieting and exercise 6. Continue with nexium, also take a prokinetic agent like levosulpiride
I think you are little bit confused it's not a beta blocker it's a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). The best PPI available now which I found very useful in my patients is ilaprazole. So you can take ilaprazole and levosulpiride
Surgery is available like fundoplication but it is done in refractory cases only so if the symptoms can be controlled on medicine then surgery is not advisable
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
