On Nicorette After Quitting Smoking. How Long For Phlegm To Stop?
I've smoked for approximately 37 years and quit smokeing 6th of june and have been on nicorette since, chewing only two to three a day. My question is how long approx. does it take for the phlegm to stop and is it normal for it to be a dark brown and at times almost black? I am haveing some difficulty from time to time getting a breath that is satisfactory for me and when the phlegm comes up it seems a little better on the breathing.
Welcome to HCM.The sputum is black /brown due to tar deposition in the lungs and brochii. The reactivity of the bronchial mucosa will take a long time to go away, hence the sputum production will need quite some time to resolve.Add chronic sinusitis which is invariably found in smokers, that too will cause sputum production.Adequate hydration will make it easier to bring out sputum.
