Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,

2mg of aripiprazole (abilify) is a very small dose (?reason for the drug) and one of its serious side effects with regard to blood pressure is low blood pressure on standing up suddenly from a sitting or lying down position. It is not commonly known to increase blood pressure.

Stress (? which maybe related to reason for prescribing the drug) may have caused the increase in blood pressure since you are already a known case of hypertension. The headache could be because of the high blood pressure or atenolol.

Stroke in elderly (age of patient not mentioned in your question) especially in patients with dementia is another serious side effect of this drug. Not otherwise and also very unlikely at such small doses.

The decision to take or stop the drug should be your psychiatrist's. He would be the best judge of it.

Hope this helps,
Dr A Rao

Welcome to HCM.
Stop using Abilify and call your doctor at once if you have the following symptoms: such as numbness or weakness, severe headache.
Beta blocker for hypertension can also produce headache because of peripheral vasodilatation.
Your pressure is also high and headache is one of the symptom of high blood pressure.
Consult your doctor and tell him your symptoms. He will guide you further.
