On Adderall (10 Mg) For Adhd Once Daily. Without Doctor's Advice, Started A Second Dose As It Is Helping Me Better. Is It Dangerous?

I have been put on adderall xr 10mg for adhd, my doctor said it would last all day to help with my symptoms at work, home and school. I started taking one 10mg in the morning but noticed that around 11-12am the medicine wore off and I was tired, unfocused and extremely scatter brained! Which is normal for me since childhood thus the reason I was put on this medication. A week and a half after I took a second dose at 11am to see if it would help, and it did. I made it through my day with ease as I had enough energy to stay awake and keep me motivated and focused. I plan on talking to my doctor about this but afraid of what she will say about me taking a second dose without talking to her first. Is this as big of a deal as I am making it to be? I don't want her to get the wrong idea and think badly of me. I have never taken any kind of medication like this before and I have no idea what to expect.

Hello.Taking 20 mg per day of the drug that you refer is not a high dose, however the increase in the daily dose should be prescribed by a doctor because that drug is an amphetamine derivative and may cause important side effects(anxiety, insomnia, palpitations, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure).Go to your doctor to assess benefits and risks of increasing dose.I wish you good health
