On And Off Sudden Chest Pain, Numbness In Left Arm And Hand, Weakness In Body. Any Ideas?
Hi yes my 22 year old healthy son has recently been experiencing chest pain and numbness in left arm and hand with a feeling of over all weakness which last for about hour or so now all the medical tests have not given any cause for concern ie xray bloods ecg these attacks dont happen all the time but in the last couple of weeks have happened reg can you offer any explanation
The age and the description of the symptoms does not indicate any serious underlying pathology, especially cardiac.Cardiac chest pain is usually central and radiates to the limb.Numbness of limb is not at all classic.Numbness is more of a symptom of nerve root compression.Cervical nerve root compression may result in the type of numbness described by you and also be associated with chest pain.Cardiac pain is usually exertional in the beginning or if it is an ACS also the pain will be severe and persisting and unlikely to be intermittent and to be present at rest.Normal blood counts rule out an infective cause, normal x ray rules out any respiratory cause for the pain, normal ecgs for this patient suggests non involvement of the cardia.Acute gastritis may be the other differential diagnosis for your son.Hope I was clear.
