I saw my dr. On Thursday and he diagnosed pilonidal cyst. I had one 35 years ago which burst on its own and ihad no treatment. This one burst last night. I am on antibiotic. It has mostly stopped bleeding and draining. Do I need to do anything more?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Antibiotic might be not enough. Especially if not all pus has been drained. If not, an incision needs to be done to heal it.
When you get rid of acute inflammation, you should consult a surgeon. Its because the cyst needs to be removed. Otherwise it will be causing an abscess again and again. In some cases it can even reach anus and cause fistula.

So please do not wait with it and consult a surgeon.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
