On Megadoses Of Lyrica, Diclofenac For Debilitating Fibromyalgia, Only Prednisone Relieves Pain. What To Do ?

Hi, I am 64 years old and was just "let go" by my rheumatologist. I have fibromyalgia that is so debilitating, I cannot get out of bed. I've been megadoses of lyrica, diclofenac, tramadol -- and none of these things help. The only thing that relieves my pain is prednisone. I know how to take it and have tapered it down to 10 mg per day and could probably go to 5. However, my dr would not prescribe it, and I get it any way I can. I know it's not the best thing to do, but it's about my quality of life. What can I do and where can I go? I don't want to keep buying this stuff online!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
You are 64/M. The common NSAID are not helpful for your pain. Cortisone gives relief. You can try Muscle relaxants along with NSAIDs. Even NSAID is harmful to prolonged use. Cortisone can be taken in tapering dose after consulting your family physician.
As depression, anxiety, Genetics, lifestyle changes, sleep disturbances etc., may be the causes of fibromyalgia - you may have to consult the relevant doctors.
Consult with Neuro Physician - is there any drugs like Gabapentine can be tried.
There are Consultant Pain Doctors. Why don't you consult with them. But avoid any addiction producing pain killers.
Best wishes
