On Seizure Medication For 12 Years. Now Seizure Free. Developed A Rash. Gone After Steroid Medication. Now Rash All Over The Body.

I have been on the same seizure medication for approximately 12 years. I've been seizure free for 11 years. I developed a rash on my back in January. It was gone after tx with steroid medication. It was gone! Since this time it has been cleared up and then comes back over the months. It is now the worst that it has ever been - rash all over my body including my scalp. It is not on my face. I also take b/p and cholesterol medication.
Could the rash be related to a medication?

hi. seizure medicines like Phentoin, Carbamazepine etc can cause drug rash which can be quite severe when it involves mucous membranes as well. The same can happen with cholesterol lowering medicines like statins and Antihypertensives e.g ACE inhibitors. In drug rash usually their is a temporal history of taking some medicines followed by development of rash. Since you said that you have been taking the same seizure medicine for past 12 years it seems unlikely that anticonvulsants are the cause of your present condition.

It could be Cholesterol lowering or antihypertensive related drug rash but need to be discussed in detail because you did not tell the exact duration since when you have been taking those?
