PTB, Exposed. Done PPD Test And Chest X Ray. Get Kidney And Lungs Tested Too?

Hi,
We are advised to take fixcom 3 since one of my officemates has PTB and we're exposed.
We did the PPD test ( 20m) and chest xray ( with clear lungs as a result)
My question is, do we have to do liver/kidney tests before taking fixcom 3? and what are the side effects?
can we take fixcom 3 along with our vit. c?
Please enlighten us more about this medicine. W

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
After going through your details, the combination drug in question is for Tuberculosis and contains 3 drugs namely Rifampicin, ethambutol, INH( Isoniazid).
Usually we do get Liver function test to have baseline as INH and Rifampicin are potentially Liver toxic drugs.
Ethambutol can causes some visual defects so during treatment we need to monitor visual symptoms and if any get a Eye check up.
These are first line therapy for tuberculosis and if taken properly in morning empty stomach have better efficacy. They must be taken regularly to get good result.
They can be taken with vitamin c and B complex specially B6 Pyridoxine prevents neuropathy of INH origin.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
Good Luck.
