Pain After Removing The Wisdom Tooth. Is It Normal? Had An Abscess After Dental Filling
I had a wisdom tooth pulled a week ago today and it is the only tooth i have ever had pulled. I went in yesterday to find out why it still hurt and why 4 of the teeth in front of it hurt too. I found out I had a dry socket so they packed it with some kind of iodine foam stuff, That one is feeling better but the other teeth are still tender. Is that normal? Plus I had a filing on the other side of my mouth done 2 days before the extraction which i found out yesterday was abscessed so I am on antibiotics.
Hello dear
actually removal of wisdom tooth is normally associated with complications like dry socket, tenderness in adjecent teeth, muscle spasm etc. While removal of wisdom teeth some of tye force is transmitted to the adjecent teeth if not done correctly.so have patience your this tenderness will subside within 6 to 7 days.Start doing warm saline rinses 4 to 5 times a day.Rest abcessed tooth will be corrected by RCT so you will have to consult youe dentist.

Hello and welcome to hcm,
If your filled tooth is associated with abscess, get root canal treatment and drainage of abscess done.
Take complete course of antibiotics too.
A thorough clinical and x-ray examination of tooth is required.
The dry socket associated with extracted wisdom tooth can be relieved with frequent warm saline and betadine rinse.
Maintain good oral hygiene.
Take care
wisdom tooth extraction has some post op complications like pain, swelling and discomfort,it get wells within 7-10days if post op instructions are followed properly,as you mentioned that you had a dressing of socket then dont worry it will soon get normal
about the adjacent tooth you mentioned that it is tender, for that i will suggest you to get an xray done to see is there any carious lesion?some times during extraction the adjacent tooth might get force and pains for a day or two,but it resides soon,if pain is prolonged then consult a dentist for evaluation
the filled tooth is abscessed....it means that the decay is still there which eventually is causing infection
for that get an xray done to check out how deep is the decay,,get the filling removed and go for a root canal therapy and then probably a crown
meanwhile take analgesic and antibiotic cover for pain and infection to subside.
hope this will help
thanks
Hello,
Removal of a wisdom tooth is not as easy as extracting any other tooth. In most of the cases it is removed surgically and the more difficulty involved in removal so does the complications. A dry socket occurs due to the dislodgement of the blood clot from the socket. Usually a Eugenol packing is placed in the socket which is changed after 3 days till the problem resolves. Take warm saline gargle 3-4 times a day and analgesics. The tooth which is abscessed should be treated by root canal treament for the problem to be resolved. Antibiotics helps in resolving the abscess but treatment will completely resolve it. Consult your dentist at the earliest.
The case of dry socket should be definitely treated with iodine dressing or zinc oxide eugenol pack.which serves as an obtundant and relieves pain due to dry socket.
you must visit your dentist and get the dressing changed as suggested.
Regarding, pain in other teeth on the same side, this could be due to same nerve distribution of that arch.
you can also observe, this if the pain persists even after wisdom tooth treatment, then get an x ray done for these teeth.
your abscessed tooth should be drained.cleaned and then should be treated by root canal treatment.
If you have done with wisdom tooth extraction and if pain becomes intense and doesnt go away after few days it may be a sign of dry socket, in this case the blood clot gets dislodged from the extraction socket leaving the bone exposed to atmosphere. It is very painful condition associated with fever and bad breath.
I would suggest you ti visit the concerned Dentist and get the checkup done, take an x-ray of the tooth.
For pain you can take tab brufen TDS for 3-5 days.
Your Dentist can give you an ZoE dressing to promote healing, you probably have to come back to Dentist periodically to change the dressing.
Follow the postoperative instructions given by the Dentist properly, take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash gargles properly. Maintain a good oral hygiene.
