Pain And Tightness Around Chest. Is This Related To Anxiety?
Lately, I have had chest pain/tightness after being startled. The pain last for a couple of hours or even throughout the day sometimes. It is not a sharp pain, more like a tightness across my chest. This happened about 10 years ago and I went to the emergency room. They ran a series of test and said that it was only anxiety . So, when I have tightness in my chest, I assume it s anxiety. I am only 35. Should I be concerned?
Just to relieve your anxiety I would get a complete cardiac chec-up done. These are usually available these days in package deals. I recommend that you consult a psychiatrist thereafter to help with your anxiety attacks. I hope this helps. Relaxation exercises, like yoga and pranayama, regular physical activity is also helpful with anxiety.
Welcome to the forum. Anxiety and stress can present in various ways and cause many symptoms. Since you have not been examined clinically since a long time, do not go by assumptions, get a medical check up done to assess your fitness.
Pain and tightness around the chest is not a good symptom, it can be due to some gastric problem, heart problem, tiredness, stress, anxiety, depression, sedentary lifestyle, etc.
I suggest you to get clinically examined before popping in any kind of medicine. Some antacids can give you temporary relief. If you are found fit clinically, see a counselor or a psychiatrist. Take home made nutritious diet, exercise regularly and sleep well. Take care.
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
You have mentioned that you have developed simialr symptoms before and have had a complete evaluation which was normal (I presume that you would have had an ECG also). Moreover, you say that you don't have chest pain, but just a tightness. So, it is quite likely that your current symptoms are anxiety-related. Anxiety can manifest itself with not only psychological symptoms, but with physical symptoms also and tightness in the chest is a common symptom.
However, if you develop any chest pain, especially one that worsens on exertion or develop any breathing difficulty, then you should get yourself checked once again.
