Pain During Breathing After Accidentally Injecting Methphetamine Into Breast. Could It Cause Serious Effects?
A lady friend of mine has an injection site infection In her breasg caused by a miss from self Injection of methamphetamine. She has an appointment for the doctor but it isnt for a couple days and has developed occasional pain from breathing in her chest. I dont know the acute dangers to be aware of and would like to know any long term effects she may face if she wants to avoid making her appointment. I can use it as leverage to go see her physician (she can be hard headed)I have a solid medical background In ems though i havent worked in the field for a while which is why she called me to run a quick physical. My current theory is the infection is causing inflammation In her breast bone and Its creating irritation and thus causing the pain while breathing. I have a pulse-ox finger unit and it showed a good rhythm, 90bpm, 02 reading at 98% and pretty steady. Without a drop in sp02 saturation and good rhythm, I feel pretty good about it not being a heart arrhythmia (a/v fibb) though I have no EKG to confirm that. Injection site is a little over a week old. I would also like to know if the meth could create a pocket of necrosis creating a whole new list of health problems. As much info u can come up with will help and be appreciated greatly. I am most curious about the chest pain and what the drug could be doing to the breast tissue while it sits and festers as well as the aforementioned acute dangers and long term effects. Hope I included enough information about whats going on, should u need more i am happy to provide it. Thank you so much for your time and help.
Its likely that there has been inflammation at site of injection causing sterile necrosis and later going in for abscess. Fluctuation which occurs due to liquifaction of abscess occurs late in case of breast abscess. Ultrasound of breast is advisable. I would suggest to start her on antibiotics Like Co-Amoxiclav and anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen in the meantime.
