This just cool.. Hi over the past 4 months i have been experiencing pain in my buttocks area and heels. I have also been experiencing burning sensation in these areas as well as some where a little lower than my knee just before the calf . i have tried to do my normal activities even being on vacation in xxxxxx. I have had terrible experiences despite changes in eating habits, increase in exercise and use of muscle relaxants and rubs. I visited our nearby hospital got pain killer and muscle relaxants but I found the pain was still intense. I am so feddup. Help. Thanks

Hello,
Thanks for writing to us

From description it seems you might be suffering from siatica. Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve — which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg.
Although the pain associated with sciatica can be severe, most cases resolve with just conservative treatments in a few weeks.

The definitive treatment depends upon the cause of sciatica. I would suggest you to consult an orthopediac surgeon who may order MRI to determine cause of sciatica and may suggest other mode of treatment.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Hi
Thank you for your question.

The symptoms you have described are very typical of nerve problems. The nerves coming out from the spinal cord travel to your legs and if these are pinched they can give these symptoms. What you need is MRI of the spine to find out the nature of the nerve involvement. Medications, structured exercise program and epidural injections are options for treatment that work for large amount of patients. If not surgical decompression can be contemplated.

Wish you the best.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

If your pain in the leg is present through out the length from buttock to heel, then it is highly suggestive of nerve compression in the lumbar spine by a protruding intervertebral disc. The initial management of this problem is always conservative by the following measures -

* avoid lifting heavy weights as it imparts more strain on your back
* avoid forward bending activities as it will worsen the disc protrusion
* Use a lumbosacral back support to augment your spinal muscles
* Intermittent pelvic traction to cause a regression of disc
* Maintain optimum body weight,if you are obese
* Physiotherapy to strengthen your back muscles. Physiotherapy has to be done only after the acute pain has subsided.
* Judicious use of analgesics and muscle relaxants.

If all these measures fail to provide you relief, then surgical decompression may be an option.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
