Pain In Buttocks, Right Leg, Lower Back Due To Fall, Weak Legs, Difficulty Turning Over. History Of Laminectomy. Possible L5-S4?

I fell off a stool 3-4 weeks ago and landed in a laundry basket. About 2 weeks later I began having increasingly worse pain in my buttox, right leg, and lower back. Wiping after a bowel movement causes sciatica and sometimes makes my leg go weak. Sleeping is difficult because of the pain when I turn over. The pain is worse in the morning, after sitting for a long time, or when walking on uneven ground. Getting out of a vehicle or out of bed on my right side usually causes intense pain--if I use my right leg. I also have referred soleus pain. I already had a laminectomy in 2006 (L4-5) with full recovery. Could this be L5-S4? Could I have a fractured sacrum? Do you have any suggestions to get me through until my Dr. appointment November 5th when I ll get my MRI and X-ray results back?

Hello,
Thanks for your query.

The symptoms that you are having are likely to be due to nerve root compressions at the level of spine. It is caused by inflammation near the coccyx bone. The symptoms are generally worse when sitting for prolonged periods of time, or with direct pressure to the tailbone area.

Follow these measures for relief from the symptoms:

1) Avoid sitting down for long periods of time. When seated, avoid to sit on hard surfaces and alternate sitting on each side of the buttocks will help. Also, lean forward and direct your weight away from the tailbone.

2) You can also use a "doughnut" cushion or pillow to sit on. This cushion has a hole in the middle of it to prevent the tailbone from contacting the flat surface.

I suggest you consult an orthopaedician for clinical examination. You may get Xray /MRI under his/her supervision.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
