Pain In Left Wrist. Feel Bone Is Swollen, Pain. How To Cure?

Having pain in my left wrist. Right on the outside at the bone at the joint (palms downward), it's tender to the touch. Also feels like the area just below (same bone area) the bone feels a little swollen. Hard to grip and feel pain holding a computer wrist pad (about 15 inches, filled with gel) from palm down rotating the wrist upward.

Hi and thanks for the query,
It would be important to know a few things to better evaluate the pain you are feeling. for how long have you been feeling this pain? Is there any notion of trauma or not?
Do you have any fever? Is it the first time you are feeling?
A complete physical examination would help in better ascertaining the origin of this pain, If it is due to a trauma, a local anti inflammatory drug with a simple analgesic most of the time would be sufficient in controlling the pain. Immobilizing the wrist on its own too might help, and ice parks do help too.
In case there is any fever or general signs of unrest, an X ray might be useful, as well blood tests like markers of acute inflammation (CrP and Erythrocyte sedimentation Rate) and a complete blood count in search of raised white blood cells. These could be indirect markers of an acute infection.
For now I suggest you immobilize the wrist, use some ice parks if available. Applying local Non Steroidal Anti inflammatory drugs and simple analgesics should be sufficient.
Persistence or aggravation of symptoms within a few days should warrant a consultation with your family physician.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.

Hi,
You are very clear in your expression. On the dorsal aspect (outside) extensor muscle tendons will be there, which you can't differentiate from bone at wrist level. If you grip your hand tightly you can see them bulging in the outside of palm going to each finger. Every muscle tendon is covered by a layer of sheet called synovial membrane. Sometime there may a collection cells in between the layer and muscle fiber. It resembles that of a teno synovial tissue. It called as Ganglia (common place is near wrist joint). If it is painful it can be removed and you will be 100% alright, even though a possibility of recurrence is there.
Best wishes
