Pain In Molar Tooth And Throat. Prescribed Penicillin. Any Ideas?

My boyfriend is having a lot of pain in what seems to be his molar. The pain has now migrated to his throat. We went to the ER on Sunday. No x-rays were given, The doctor said it was not tonsils. She wrote him a script for pain and Penicillin. My boyfriend says he is still in a lot of pain. He said the meds that were given to him only dulled the pain. Any ideas or suggests as to what this is or how to make the pain stop? He does not have insurance so a dentist is out of the question.

thanks for writing

As per your saying he might be having impacted third molar which is troubling him now ideally you should visit a dentist but as per your say its not possible so for the time being tell your friend to have a antibiotic course as well as pain killers...
but down the lane he has to visit a dentist to solve the problems because medicine will only act on sign and symptoms not on etiology(actual problem)

Hello,

Thanks for writing in this forum,

I feel his molar tooth is carious and that has involved the pulp inside tooth...thatswhy he is having pain....

In this case Root canal treatment is required...or extraction depending on the tooth condition...

If you take antibiotic and analgesic the infection will be subsided but after some days again he will get pain...medicine will give you temporary relief but he has to take treatment that only can give permanent solution...

Meanwhile take warm saline rinses 5-6times/day...

Analgesic he can take according to prescription...

Get your proper treatment done...

Wish your boyfriend good health.....

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Pain in the tooth indicates infection in the tooth that had involved the pulpal tissue, such type of infected tooth needs to be root canal treated to save it permanently.
Pain can also be due to the impacted wisdom tooth.
I would suggest you to visit to the Dentist and get the examination done, take an OPG radiograph.
A thorough clinical and radiological examination is required to determine the exact diagnosis and treatment plan.
Take the complete course of antibiotics prescribed to you.
At home take lukewarm saline and antispetic mouthwash rinses.

Hope you find this as helpful,

Regards..

Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.

Medications can give only temporary relief for toothache.

Cause of toothache has to be evaluated clinically and treated by a dentist.

If tooth is decayed, infected pulp has to be removed through root canal procedure.

If tooth cannot be saved,it has to be extracted.

If there is periodontal infection, scaling as well as curettage has to be done.

Maintain oral care.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
The pain from a toothache can spread to other areas. You might try taking some ibuprofen and see if it dulls the pain enough for you to tell where it's coming from. Do you have any swelling in your gums around the area, or on the outside of your face?
First you visit your doctor. If he says that you throat is clear and pain is because of last molar then you can visit your dentist. Till then you can do warm saline rinses and gargles which will help your sore throat and molar infection.
